Cookies and browser storage

Draft, under legal review

Last updated 28 October 2026

This page lists what Kiln stores in your browser.

The sign-in cookie

Kiln sets one cookie, named __Host-kiln_session. It keeps you signed in. It is set when you sign in, lasts 12 hours, is sent only to kiln.hellm.ai, and cannot be read by scripts on the page. Without it Kiln cannot tell who you are.

Browser local storage

Kiln keeps a few settings in your browser’s local storage so the page opens as you left it:

  • the app you opened last
  • whether the detailed view is on
  • the screen size you chose for the preview
  • your choice on the demo switch

No tracking

Kiln has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. Because the cookie and the stored settings are needed to run Kiln or to remember a choice you made, Kiln shows no cookie banner. Whether that is enough is part of the legal review.

Apps you build

The starting point for a built app sets no cookies and has no analytics. Its sign-in session is kept in the browser’s local storage by the app’s backend library. If you add anything else that stores data in a visitor’s browser, you must tell the visitor.
